French Toast
A very basic sort of recipe, you can easily vary the experience by substituting sourdough
or cracked wheat bread for the traditional loaf of French or Italian white.
4 large eggs |
3/4 c. milk |
2 T. maple syrup |
1 t. vanilla extract |
1/4 t. salt |
2 T. butter |
8 slices bread of choice |
|
- In a shallow bowl, whisk the eggs, then add the milk, syrup, vanilla, and salt.
- In a hot skillet, melt the butter. Working with two or three slices of bread at a time,
dip the bread in the eggs and add them to the skillet. Cook until the underside is golden
brown. Flip and repeat. Remove to a warm platter and repeat until all of the bread is
cooked.
- Our preference is to serve with maple syrup. You might want to try
powdered sugar or strawberry preserves.
