French Toast

A very basic sort of recipe, you can easily vary the experience by substituting sourdough or cracked wheat bread for the traditional loaf of French or Italian white.

4 large eggs 3/4 c. milk
2 T. maple syrup 1 t. vanilla extract
1/4 t. salt 2 T. butter
8 slices bread of choice
  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk the eggs, then add the milk, syrup, vanilla, and salt.

  2. In a hot skillet, melt the butter. Working with two or three slices of bread at a time, dip the bread in the eggs and add them to the skillet. Cook until the underside is golden brown. Flip and repeat. Remove to a warm platter and repeat until all of the bread is cooked.

  3. Our preference is to serve with maple syrup. You might want to try powdered sugar or strawberry preserves.
