The Dollhouse

The story of the dollhouse is virtually inseparable from the story of our life at Carol Place. True, Aliceann began work on it nearly a year before we moved here. Still, the dollhouse has been a key part of our identity in this place, beginning with the Trick-or-Treaters who saw it through the window that first Halloween and wanted to come back for a tour. Every year, usually over Easter weekend, Aliceann changes the dollhouse's setting from Winter to Summer

Twice, the dollhouse has been featured on Christmas cards. The National Trust for Historical Preservation used it in 1998; the Smithsonian Institution, in 1999.

It was featured in a December 2001 article by Cheryl Miller for Miniature Collector. We mention the author, in part, because Cheryl's renditions of Monet's garden and kitchen are so extraordinary. We also mention Cheryl as a way of plugging the good folks at Miniatures From The Attic. If you're in the area and you are at all interested in, or curious about, miniatures, Miniatures From The Attic is the place to start. Be sure to tell Gary and the elves that Aliceann sent you.
